Currently airing on &TV, Ek Mahanayak – Dr B. R. Ambedkar is a biopic docudrama on the life on the Father of the Indian Constitution and Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Essaying his role on the show is Prasad Jawade, but at present, young Bhimrao’s role is being played by child actor Aayudh Bhanushali. Through Bhimrao’s battle with casteism, injustice, poverty, and inequality, he encounters some Good Samaritans who help him make a difference in the world.

Addressed as Bua on the show, she is Ramji’s sister and Bhimrao’s paternal aunt. She lives in Ramji’s house and takes care of his five young children (Bala, Anand, Bhimrao, Tulsa, and Manjula). When Bhima Bai has a recurring headache, Bua takes her to the doctor who diagnoses her fatal illness. If Bua had not stepped forward to help Bhima Bai, her condition would have worsened and perhaps even caused her death!

Bhim was originally named ‘Bhimrao Ramji Sakpal Ambavalkar’. To rid him of the caste identification from his last name, Guruji lends his own surname to Bhim while appearing for an exam. This way, he becomes ‘Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’ for the rest of life and changes his identity forever!

Along with Guruji, school teacher Pendse sir also proves a great help to Bhim. When Ramji is sent to prison following Sethji’s conspiracy, Bhim needs a petition to be signed by five villagers. Even when he is opposed, Pendse sir is among the first ones to stand by Bhim.

In the village, Ramji’s major rival is Sethji, who has a son named Dhruv. Blinded by his father’s riches, Dhruv never realises that he has bad habits. When lovingly corrected by Bhim, Dhruv becomes a changed boy! Now he gives Bhim a glass of milk every morning and plays with him in the evenings, leaving aside the trappings of caste and wealth.

There’s no one who has stood by Ramji like Puranjan! Whenever Bhim and his family face troubles, which they often do, Puranjan is the first person to be at their door, not to take, but to give! He has even aided Ramji financially when he had to take Bhima Bai to Bombay for treatment.

When Bhima Bai’s headache becomes unbearable, she is brought to a vaidya who diagnoses her deadly disease. As a doctor, Vaidya ji suggests that Bhima Bai should be taken to Bombay immediately. Later, when Bhim and his brothers are at her place, she defends them and refuses to accept that they are untouchable!
