1. How does it feel hosting a talent hunt show like Lav Re To Video?
A: The quarantine has been tough for me just like everyone else. I have done some writing and watched web series during this vacation. I was not well versed in the concept of digital series. I have also written scripts for films. And then this show landed in my lap. And it feels good that I have something to do during the lockdown.
2. You yourself began your journey from a talent show and ended up winning it. How did it feel at that moment?
A:Â My journey also started from a similar stage. Maharashtracha Superstar was an opportunity for me and if I had not received it, I wouldn’t be where I am today. That is why I relate to the dreams of the contestants and participants. I feel more than grateful that I am there to watch and guide them through this.
3. You are known as the face of Marathi comedy. Have you always wanted to be in this genre?
A: Yes, I started off with this genre, and shows like Fu Bai Fu and Chala Hawa Yeu Dya promoted me towards it. That said, I feel comedy is my strength and I find happiness in doing it. I feel elated when I see people laughing when I perform. Their joy is the feedback of my work. I don’t think it is similar in other genres. But also, there are actors like Bhau Kadam, Laxmikant Berde, Dilip Prabhavalkar, and Mohan Joshi who handle many different genres and excel in all of them. I would also like to do the same, starting with serious shows or films.
4. The concept of Lav Re To Video is a bit new-age. Do you think this is the need of the hour?
A: When we were younger, we used to play and while our time away. But if you take a look at the children today, they are all very creative and technologically advanced. Their creativity and talent need a platform, and therefore, Lav Re To Video is definitely the need of the hour.
5. Speaking of which, you have been a witness to the changes in the industry over the past decade. What do you think about that?
A: Yes, I started a decade ago and I have seen the industry evolve. There are have been many changes including the costumes and cameras, the audience perception, and the medium of reaching out to the viewers. Today, we have short video platforms, we have OTT, and so many newly-introduced mediums. It has just become easier. We had to stand in line for an audition for hours at end, but today one can film a video and upload to the website.
6. How did you prepare for the show Lav Re To Video?
A: I have always been a fanatic of media and a learner with that. When I was in college, I used to experiment with my phone, that time it had a 2 mbps camera. I shot videos on that and I think that experience helped me prepare for this lockdown shooting of Lav Re To Video. As for my character Vikas Jayphale, he is a very relatable character who has the ability to remind us of our hometowns. Even if Maharashtrians go to any city worldwide, they always have a link to their hometown, be it Konkan or Satara. Therefore, VJ will remind them of their native place and that annoying uncle who is witty and sarcastic.
7. Do you think Lav Re To Video is popular because it launched during the lockdown?
A: I don’t think so. Like I said, the mobile is a medium of reaching out and even if it weren’t for the lockdown, people would have still grabbed any opportunity to show their talent.
8. What would your message be to the aspirants of the show?
A: I would say that one must keep dreaming and working hard towards achieving success. Also, one must never give up in order to succeed.
