Entertainment is the antidote to boredom and with a bunch of new and exciting stories coming your way, ZEE5 has taken care of that during the Coronavirus lockdown. Directed by Mehreen Jabbar, this 20-episode romantic drama series, Mera Naam Yousuf Hai revolves around the Zulaikha and Yousuf, who have feelings for each other. Meet the star-cast of this forbidden love story by reading ahead:

1. Imran Abbas as Yousuf

Actor, singer and former model Imran Abbas essays the male lead role of Yousuf Waji Ahmed. He falls for Zulaikha at first sight, and fights for his love with her family. He goes through Noor Mohammed’s (Zulaikha’s father) sinister planning and the police’s torture to express his feelings about marrying her. Imran’s claims to fame are the movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Creature 3D.

Known by her stage name Maya Ali, actress Maryam Tanveer portrays the female lead of Zulaikha Noor Mohammed in the series. She has feelings for Yousuf but denies them, considering it to be a momentary attraction. She has a strict father Noor Mohammed, a kind mother Afiya Begum and a sister Hajira. In real life, Maya Ali has been a former model as well as a VJ (Video Jockey).

Zulaikha’s father Molvi Noor Mohammed is played by actor and director Waseem Abbas. In the show, he plays a short-tempered man who is very strict with his daughters. He is disloyal to his wife and marries another woman. As the antagonist of Zulaikha-Yousuf’s forbidden love story, he makes plans to physically torture Yousuf, and marry Zulaikha off to his nephew.

Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, actress Hina Khawaja Bayat portrays the role of Zulaikha’s kind and strong mother, Afiya Begum. She is a sensitive woman who wants the best for her two daughters. She protects Zulaikha and Hajira from their cruel father Noor Mohammed. She is an epitome of women empowerment, and stands up against her disloyal husband to support Zulaikha-Yousuf.

Television actress, host and former model Mizna Waqas essays the role of Zulaikha’s sister Hajira Noor Mohammed. She is the second daughter of Afiya Begum and Noor Mohammed. Aware of Yousuf’s feelings for Zulaikha, she urges her sister to also confess her love to him. Upon learning about her father’s disloyalty towards her mother, she stands by Afiya Begum and rebels against patriarchy.

Critically acclaimed and commercially successful actress and television presenter Mansha Pasha, plays the character of Madiha. She is Yousuf’s friend’s sister, and is attracted to him. She gets extremely upset when she learns that Yousuf loves Zulaikha, and wants to marry her. But Madiha declines Yousuf when he proposes marriage to her. Later, Madiha proves that she is large-hearted.
